Petition to the United States Navy CaC and the United States Congress for the Naming of the Nuclear Aircraft Carrier designated CVN-80 USS. James H. Doolittle![]() Whereas in 1942 James H. Doolittle did lead a gallant and auspicious raid involving 16 B-25 Mitchell Bombers off of the flight deck of the USS Hornet against strategic targets within the nation of Japan in retaliation of Pearl Harbor. Whereas in this act he sounded a battle cry for the nation of the United States of America and rallied the troops with a hope of victory. With this act, he lay a crushing blow the the pride of the nation of Japan with no regard to the possible consequences to himself and his life when forced to land in enemy occupied territory. Doolittle received the Medal of Honor from President Franklin D. Roosevelt at the White House for planning and leading his raid on Japan. His citation reads: "For conspicuous leadership above and beyond the call of duty, involving personal valor and intrepidity at an extreme hazard to life. With the apparent certainty of being forced to land in enemy territory or to perish at sea, Lt. Col. Doolittle personally led a squadron of Army bombers, manned by volunteer crews, in a highly destructive raid on the Japanese mainland."For his Gallant and brave acts, In cooperation and coordination with the United States Navy I do hereby call upon the congress of the United States of America to pass a resolution to name the nuclear aircraft carrier to be designated CVN-80 the USS James H. Doolittle. And do further call upon the secretary of the Navy and the Navy CAC to support this request of the taxpayers of the United States Of America in the honor of a true American Hero.
